INMOL Cancer Hospital’s Global Recognition in Cancer Care
Pakistan has taken a significant step forward in healthcare with Lahore’s Institute of Nuclear Medicine & Oncology (INMOL) officially joining the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) global network. This achievement places the hospital among a select group of institutions recognized for excellence in cancer treatment, research, and training.
The announcement was made during a high-level ceremony in Vienna, where Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi signed the agreement in the presence of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The commemorative plaque awarded to INMOL symbolizes international confidence in Pakistan’s growing capabilities in oncology.
Officials emphasized that Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) hospitals are a source of hope for thousands of patients nationwide. With INMOL now designated as a collaborating centre, Pakistan joins five other institutions recognized by the IAEA, underscoring national pride and commitment to advancing medical science.
One of the highlights of this milestone is the inauguration of a state-of-the-art HyperArc machine worth Rs1.4 billion, designed to deliver highly precise cancer treatments. This technology, combined with advanced linear accelerators and imaging systems, ensures patients receive world-class care at affordable costs.
INMOL treats approximately 150,000 patients annually, offering accessible healthcare to communities across Pakistan. Beyond patient care, the hospital has trained hundreds of oncologists, medical physicists, and technologists, contributing to the country’s growing expertise in cancer research and treatment.
Currently, PAEC operates a network of 21 cancer hospitals nationwide, collectively serving over one million patients each year. INMOL’s inclusion in the IAEA global network not only enhances Pakistan’s reputation in healthcare but also strengthens its role in international collaboration, research, and innovation.
This recognition is more than just a title—it represents Pakistan’s dedication to improving cancer care, expanding medical knowledge, and ensuring that advanced treatment remains within reach for its people.
