Karachi witnessed a milestone in healthcare as Bilawal Bhutto Zardari inaugurated the Indus University Hospital, a project designed to transform medical services in Sindh. The new facility reflects the Pakistan Peoples Party’s vision of providing free, world-class healthcare to all citizens, regardless of background.
Speaking at the ceremony, Bilawal emphasized that the hospital embodies the PPP’s philosophy of welfare and inclusivity. He linked the initiative to the party’s historic slogan “Roti, Kapra, Aur Makan,” describing it not just as a slogan but as a guiding principle for governance.
The Indus University Hospital is set to become Pakistan’s largest free treatment facility, with a capacity of 1,350 beds upon completion in three years. It will feature modern emergency and outpatient departments, advanced diagnostic units, and 36 state-of-the-art operation theatres. Specialized cancer care and research centers will also be part of the hospital, ensuring comprehensive treatment options for patients.
Beyond healthcare delivery, the hospital will integrate education through its Health Sciences University. This institution will link seven medical colleges, creating a hub for training, research, and service. The model aims to strengthen the province’s medical workforce while improving patient care standards.
Bilawal highlighted Sindh’s public health achievements, positioning the province’s network as a model for Pakistan and beyond. He stressed that the government’s responsibility is to care for the poor and vulnerable, and projects like Indus University Hospital are central to fulfilling that mission.
The inauguration, coinciding with Christmas celebrations, symbolized inclusivity and compassion. With its scale and ambition, the Indus University Hospital stands as a beacon of hope for millions, promising accessible healthcare and setting new benchmarks for medical infrastructure in Pakistan.
