Strengthening Healthcare Ties Between Pakistan and Türkiye
Pakistan and Türkiye have taken a major step forward in their bilateral relations by agreeing to establish a joint team of health experts. The initiative was announced by Federal Minister for Health Syed Mustafa Kamal during a meeting with the Turkish ambassador, attended by senior delegations from both sides.
The joint team will focus on expanding cooperation in several critical areas:
- Health tourism: Promoting Pakistan and Türkiye as destinations for international patients seeking high-quality medical services.
- Medical device trade and technology transfer: Enhancing collaboration in the production and exchange of medical equipment and health-related products.
- Hospital investment: Encouraging public-private partnerships and exploring new avenues for investment in healthcare infrastructure.
- Administrative collaboration: Sharing insights into health systems and institutional frameworks to strengthen governance and service delivery.
Minister Kamal emphasized that the partnership reflects the longstanding ties between Pakistan and Türkiye, highlighting the importance of translating political goodwill into tangible cooperation in social sectors. He noted that the joint team will prepare a comprehensive document outlining priority areas, followed by the creation of a “one-window” system to streamline coordination and ensure effective implementation.
Officials from the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP), including its CEO, along with a joint secretary from the health ministry, have been designated as focal persons to oversee the initiative.
This collaboration is seen as part of broader efforts to modernize healthcare systems, improve patient outcomes, and attract international investment. By pooling expertise and resources, Pakistan and Türkiye aim to build a stronger, more resilient health sector capable of meeting future challenges.
The agreement underscores a shared vision: healthcare cooperation not only strengthens bilateral relations but also delivers long-term benefits for communities in both nations.
