Pakistan’s Voice in Global Health Policy
Pakistan’s Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal has arrived in Geneva to represent the country at the 79th World Health Assembly, held from May 18 to 23, 2026. This annual gathering, organized by the World Health Organization (WHO), brings together health leaders from across the globe to set priorities and shape international health policies.
During the Assembly, Pakistan will highlight its national health priorities, including reforms aimed at strengthening healthcare systems and improving access to essential services. The minister is expected to showcase progress in combating infectious diseases such as tuberculosis, HIV, malaria, dengue, and hepatitis.
A key focus of Pakistan’s presentation will be maternal and child health. Efforts to reduce mortality rates in these areas have been central to the country’s health agenda, with expanded immunization programs and targeted interventions making measurable impacts.
Pakistan’s participation also underscores its commitment to global cooperation. By aligning with WHO’s agenda, the country aims to strengthen partnerships, secure technical support, and contribute to collective strategies for pandemic preparedness and response.
The Assembly will deliberate on pressing issues such as global health financing, pandemic agreements, and strategies to address emerging threats. Pakistan’s presence ensures that its voice is heard in these critical discussions, reinforcing its role as a responsible member of the international health community.
