WHO Pakistan Celebrates Medical Science Saving Lives

Medical Science: A Lifeline for Millions in Pakistan

On World Health Day, WHO Pakistan joined hands with the Ministry of Health to spotlight the extraordinary impact of medical science in saving lives and strengthening healthcare systems. The celebration underscored Pakistan’s achievements in disease prevention, immunization, and the broader role of science in shaping healthier communities.

Health leaders emphasized that trust in science is essential for protecting families and ensuring sustainable healthcare. Pakistan, as a founding member of WHO, has made remarkable progress in tackling diseases that once posed severe threats to public health.

Breakthroughs in medical science have transformed healthcare outcomes. Diseases such as tuberculosis, malaria, hepatitis C, and cancer are now treatable, while polio eradication efforts have reduced cases in Pakistan by nearly 99.8% over the past three decades. These milestones reflect the power of innovation and international collaboration.

WHO Representative Dr. Luo Dapeng highlighted that vaccines alone have saved more than 150 million lives worldwide in the past 50 years. In Pakistan, immunization programs reach millions annually, with seven million children and 5.5 million women of childbearing age receiving life-saving vaccines. Tuberculosis treatment has supported over five million patients in the last decade, while malnutrition programs provide care to 70,000 children each year.

The event also promoted the One Health approach, recognizing the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health. This holistic strategy ensures that healthcare solutions address broader challenges, from disease prevention to sustainable living.

Young people were encouraged to embrace science and innovation, becoming active contributors to a healthier future. The celebration was not just about recognizing past achievements—it was a call to action for continued investment in science, collaboration, and public trust.

World Health Day in Pakistan reaffirmed that medical science is more than a tool—it is a lifeline, saving millions of lives and paving the way for a stronger, healthier nation.
