Pakistan-Iran Health Cooperation: Joint Committees Formed

Building Stronger Healthcare Ties Between Pakistan and Iran

Pakistan and Iran have taken a significant step toward strengthening their healthcare systems by agreeing to expand cooperation in the health sector. The decision was made during a meeting between Pakistan’s Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal and Iran’s Ambassador Dr Reza Amiri Moghadam in Islamabad.

Both sides praised the deep-rooted brotherly relations between the two nations and emphasized the importance of collaboration in critical areas such as pharmaceuticals, vaccine production, and medical research. The meeting also highlighted Pakistan’s progress in local vaccine manufacturing, which can be further enhanced through shared expertise with Iran.

To formalize this cooperation, the two countries agreed to establish high-level joint committees. Pakistan will nominate representatives from the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP), the National Institute of Health, and the Ministry of Health, while Iran will appoint its own committee members. These committees will identify joint projects, explore new avenues of collaboration, and ensure smooth implementation of agreed initiatives.

Minister Mustafa Kamal expressed solidarity with Iran during its recent challenges, reaffirming Pakistan’s support in difficult times. The Iranian ambassador, in turn, appreciated Pakistan’s role in mediation efforts and its commitment to regional peace and cooperation.

The partnership is expected to bring tangible benefits, including:

  • Enhanced pharmaceutical production to reduce reliance on imports.
  • Joint vaccine manufacturing projects to secure long-term healthcare needs.
  • Knowledge and technology transfer to strengthen medical research and innovation.
  • Expanded healthcare trade and investment opportunities between the two countries.

This agreement marks the beginning of a new chapter in Pakistan-Iran healthcare collaboration, positioning both nations to achieve greater self-reliance and resilience in the face of global health challenges.
