In a progressive move, Mustafa Kamal has called for immediate and widespread adoption of telemedicine and digital healthcare technologies in Pakistan. Speaking at a recent conference, Kamal emphasized that telemedicine has the potential to revolutionize healthcare delivery, especially in underserved and remote areas of the country.
He highlighted the increasing global reliance on virtual consultations and digital medical solutions, urging policymakers to adopt similar models within Pakistan. “In this age of technology, the healthcare system must also evolve,” he stated, adding that access to medical services should no longer be limited by geography.
Kamal stressed the importance of integrating digital platforms with existing health infrastructure to improve patient access, reduce costs, and enhance efficiency. He advocated for a nationwide telemedicine policy that supports digital clinics, remote diagnostics, and online consultations.
The former mayor also pointed out the importance of equipping healthcare professionals with modern tools and training to adapt to the digital shift. He called on both public and private sectors to invest in health tech innovation, noting that a unified approach is necessary to bring meaningful change.
“Countries around the world have already implemented telehealth systems successfully. Pakistan must act now to ensure that healthcare becomes accessible to every citizen, regardless of location,” Kamal concluded.
His remarks are seen as a timely reminder of the urgent need to reform and digitize Pakistan’s healthcare sector. The implementation of telemedicine could not only bridge the urban-rural health divide but also transform patient care and health outcomes nationwide.
