Pakistan’s Renewed Drive Against Polio
Pakistan has stepped up its fight against polio with the launch of a second nationwide vaccination campaign. This initiative underscores the government’s determination to eradicate the disease and protect millions of children across the country.
The campaign aims to reach children under the age of five, ensuring they receive the essential polio drops that safeguard them against lifelong disability. Health officials have mobilized thousands of vaccination teams, working tirelessly in urban centers, rural villages, and hard-to-reach areas.
Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal emphasized that polio eradication remains a top priority for Pakistan’s healthcare agenda. He noted that the government is committed to overcoming logistical challenges and ensuring every child is vaccinated, regardless of location.
This campaign follows the success of earlier drives, which significantly reduced polio cases nationwide. However, health authorities acknowledge that persistent gaps in coverage, misinformation, and resistance in certain communities continue to pose challenges.
International partners, including the World Health Organization and UNICEF, are supporting Pakistan’s efforts by providing technical assistance, resources, and advocacy. Their collaboration highlights the global importance of eliminating polio, a disease that remains endemic in only a few countries.
The second nationwide campaign represents more than just a health initiative—it is a promise to future generations. By strengthening immunization coverage and building public trust, Pakistan moves closer to achieving a polio-free status and securing better health outcomes for its children.
