Sindh Health Department Ramps Up Emergency Measures

The Sindh Health Department has launched an aggressive response following a deadly skin disease outbreak in Khairpur. Officials confirmed seven cases, including five fatalities, sparking urgent action across the province.

A high-level meeting chaired by the Director General of the Provincial Health Department reviewed the situation and outlined immediate steps to contain the spread. Attendees included senior officials from the Public Health Reference Lab and the PDSRU unit, ensuring a coordinated approach.

As part of the emergency measures, the private health facility where the outbreak first surfaced has been sealed. Authorities have also initiated awareness campaigns in affected communities to educate residents on preventive practices and safety measures.

To strengthen the province’s preparedness, nearly 2,500 health facilities have been placed on high alert. The health minister directed all district hospitals to establish infectious disease wards immediately, ensuring suspected patients receive timely care. Around 100 specialized wards are being set up in major hospitals, alongside emergency information desks to provide updates and guidance.

Officials emphasized that surveillance has been tightened across Sindh, with the provincial monitoring system fully activated. These steps aim to contain the outbreak, prevent further transmission, and safeguard public health.

The Sindh Health Department stressed the importance of community awareness, urging residents to follow preventive guidelines and remain vigilant. By combining surveillance, treatment preparedness, and public education, authorities hope to minimize the impact of the outbreak and prevent additional loss of life.
