Punjab Police Intensifies Crackdown on Drug Dealers and Smugglers

Punjab’s Intensified Anti-Narcotics Drive

Punjab Police has launched a vigorous campaign against drug dealers and smugglers, aligning with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s “Drug-Free Punjab” vision. Inspector General of Police Punjab, Abdul Kareem, has directed law enforcement agencies to accelerate operations across the province.

So far in 2026, over 11,000 drug peddlers have been arrested, with 10,975 cases registered. These operations have led to significant recoveries, including:

  • 6,000 kilograms of charas
  • 706 kilograms of heroin
  • 308 kilograms of crystal meth (ice)
  • 151 kilograms of opium
  • 179,000 liters of liquor

In Lahore alone, police arrested 1,148 drug peddlers and registered 1,145 cases. Recoveries in the provincial capital included 376 kilograms of charas, 20 kilograms of heroin, 75 kilograms of ice, 4 kilograms of opium, and 8,260 liters of liquor.

IG Abdul Kareem has emphasized strict legal action against all individuals involved in the drug supply chain, ensuring they face severe punishments under the law. He has also ordered intensified monitoring around educational institutions and hostels, where drug peddling poses a direct threat to youth.

Another key directive focuses on tackling the online sale and purchase of narcotics, a growing challenge in the digital age. Punjab Police is expanding its surveillance and enforcement capabilities to curb this trend.

This aggressive stance reflects Punjab’s commitment to eradicating narcotics and protecting communities from the devastating impact of drug abuse. With thousands of arrests and large-scale recoveries already recorded, the campaign signals a new level of determination in law enforcement to achieve a drug-free society.

In summary, Punjab Police’s intensified crackdown demonstrates a multi-pronged approach—targeting street-level dealers, major smugglers, and online networks—ensuring that the fight against narcotics remains relentless and comprehensive.
