PFA Seizes 18,000 Kg Fat and 3,000 Kg Dead Chickens in Lahore Crackdown

Major Food Safety Crackdown in Lahore by Punjab Food Authority

The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) carried out a large-scale operation in Lahore, discarding 18,000 kilograms of animal fat, 600 liters of prepared oil, and 3,000 kilograms of dead chickens. The crackdown targeted multiple areas including Sundar Estate, Shahdara, Tollinton Market, and Mondiali Stop.

Legal Action and Penalties

Authorities registered one case, arrested three suspects, and imposed fines totaling Rs 352,000 on 19 food outlets. In addition, a water plant and a food production unit were sealed for violating safety standards.

Violations Exposed

During inspections, officials found serious breaches of food safety regulations:

  • Absence of required Methanol Dye records in oil production units.
  • Workers without medical certificates and poor hygiene arrangements.
  • Unsafe storage practices, with milk and meat kept together in rusted freezers.

Official Statement

PFA Director General Syed Musa Raza confirmed that the businesses were operating against regulations and posed serious risks to public health. He stressed that the authority will continue strict legal action, declaring that no concession will be given to the food fraud mafia.
