Pakistan’s Fight Against Polio: A National Mission
Polio eradication remains one of Pakistan’s most urgent health priorities. Federal Minister for National Health Services, Syed Mustafa Kamal, recently underscored the government’s unwavering resolve to eliminate the disease once and for all. His statement came during a meeting with Dr. Chris Elias, Chairman of the Polio Oversight Board, in Geneva.
The minister highlighted that coordinated vaccination drives and improved campaign quality are central to achieving a polio-free Pakistan. He credited Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership for driving health sector reforms that strengthen the fight against polio.
International partners have played a crucial role in supporting Pakistan’s eradication efforts. Mustafa Kamal expressed gratitude for their continued assistance, noting that global cooperation ensures vaccine availability and enhances the effectiveness of nationwide campaigns.
Dr. Elias praised Pakistan’s recent progress, commending the integrated strategies being implemented under Kamal’s leadership. He assured that the Polio Oversight Board will maintain its support, reinforcing Pakistan’s mission to safeguard children from this preventable disease. His upcoming visit to Pakistan in July is expected to further strengthen collaboration.
The minister’s declaration that “Polio eradication is our national cause” reflects the country’s collective determination. With sustained efforts, Pakistan aims to join the ranks of nations that have successfully eliminated polio, securing a healthier future for its people.
