Minister Urges Citizens to Avail Free Hepatitis C Screening in Islamabad
National Drive Against Hepatitis C Gains Momentum
Federal Minister for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination, Syed Mustafa Kamal, has called on the public to actively participate in the Prime Minister’s Hepatitis C Programme by availing free screening services.
Speaking at a high-level meeting attended by senior health officials, hospital heads, and programme directors, the minister emphasized that Hepatitis C eradication is a national objective. He highlighted that more than 10 million Pakistanis are currently living with Hepatitis C, making it one of the country’s most pressing health challenges.
The minister urged citizens to get tested and encourage others to do the same, noting that timely identification and treatment can significantly reduce the spread of the disease. He stressed that the initiative is not just a programme but a national campaign aimed at securing Pakistan’s future health.
To ensure maximum participation, Mustafa Kamal directed authorities to speed up the screening process and make it more accessible. He also emphasized the importance of public awareness campaigns, which play a crucial role in motivating communities to undergo testing.
The minister appealed to residents of Islamabad to visit the 15 designated health facilities offering free Hepatitis C screening. He assured that individuals who test positive will receive timely treatment and follow-up care, reinforcing the government’s commitment to eliminating the disease.
By strengthening coordination among institutions and intensifying awareness efforts, the government aims to curb Hepatitis C nationwide and protect millions of citizens from its long-term health risks. This campaign reflects Pakistan’s determination to achieve a healthier future through proactive prevention and treatment strategies.
