Polio Case Detected in Karachi as 2024 Cases Rise to 70

Pakistan’s fight against polio takes a concerning turn with the detection of the 70th polio case of 2024, found in Karachi. This marks the second confirmed case in the Karachi East district, highlighting the ongoing challenges in eradicating the disease.

The latest case, confirmed by the National Institute of Health’s Regional Reference Laboratory, involves a male child showing symptoms since December 2024. With this new development, Karachi joins other affected regions, including Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Sindh.

In response, the Pakistan Polio Programme continues to ramp up mass vaccination efforts, with the first nationwide campaign of 2025 set for February 3-9. The health ministry urges parents to ensure their children are vaccinated to protect against further outbreaks
