With heavy rainfall expected across Karachi and other districts of Sindh, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has declared a rain emergency and convened an urgent preparedness meeting at CM House. The move comes in response to warnings from the Meteorological Department about multiple rain spells and potential urban flooding.
High Alert Across Key Departments
During the meeting, CM Shah directed:
- Local bodies and municipal authorities to remain on high alert
- Hospitals and emergency services to prepare for flood-related health risks
- Traffic police to manage congestion and ensure safe mobility during downpours
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) briefed the Chief Minister on vulnerable areas, including Shahrah-e-Faisal, which often faces water pressure during heavy rains.
Rainfall Expected Across Sindh
The Met Office has forecast thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in Karachi, Sukkur, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Larkana, Dadu, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Khairpur, and Mirpurkhas. Isolated hailstorms are also possible during the weather event.
Public Advisory Issued
CM Shah urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel and take precautions to stay safe. Government and private institutions in Karachi have been instructed to observe half-day operations to minimize exposure during peak rainfall hours.
