In a bold move to overhaul Pakistan’s healthcare infrastructure, the federal Health Minister has announced a comprehensive reform package aimed at improving service delivery, expanding access, and modernizing data systems across the country.

Digital Transformation with DHIS2

At the heart of the reform is the nationwide rollout of the District Health Information System (DHIS2), a digital platform designed to replace outdated manual data tracking. This system will:

• Streamline health data collection and analysis
• Improve decision-making and resource allocation
• Enhance transparency and accountability in service delivery

The transition to DHIS2 marks a major step toward building a digitally integrated public health ecosystem.

Expanding the Healthcare Workforce

To address chronic staffing shortages, the government will establish:

• Five new nursing colleges
• Associated community health centers for hands-on training and service delivery

These institutions will help train a new generation of healthcare professionals and strengthen Pakistan’s frontline care capacity.

Mobile Clinics and Rural Access

Recognizing the healthcare gap in rural and underserved areas, the reforms include the deployment of mobile health clinics. These units will deliver:

• Maternal and child health support

This initiative aims to decentralize healthcare and reduce the burden on overcrowded urban hospitals.

Public-Private Partnerships for Vaccination Access

The Health Minister also announced plans to establish 24/7 birth-dose vaccination sites through public-private partnerships (PPPs). These sites will ensure timely immunization for newborns and improve vaccine coverage in high-need areas.
