Pakistan Unveils First Hybrid Certificate Course in Reproductive and Sexual Health
In a groundbreaking move to strengthen community healthcare, the College of Family Medicine Pakistan (CFMP) has launched a six-month hybrid certificate course focused on reproductive and sexual health. The initiative marks a major step toward equipping primary care physicians and postgraduate trainees with the tools to address sensitive yet prevalent health issues across Pakistan.
A Collaborative Effort Across Medical Societies
The course is backed by five leading academic medical societies:
- Pakistan Endocrine Society (PES)
- Pakistan Society of Internal Medicine (PSIM)
- Diabetic Association of Pakistan (DAP)
- Society of Gynecologists and Obstetricians of Pakistan (SOGP)
- Primary Care Diabetes Association (PCDA)
Course directors Dr. M. Zaman Shaikh and Dr. Shehla Naseem are spearheading the program, which blends online learning with in-person clinical training.
Global Experts Endorse the Initiative
At the inauguration ceremony, international health leaders joined virtually to highlight the course’s significance:
- Prof. Peter Schwarz, President of the International Diabetes Federation
- Prof. Deepak Jumani, a renowned reproductive health expert from India
Both emphasized the global relevance of reproductive and sexual health education, especially in culturally sensitive contexts.
Empowering Physicians to Address Community Needs
According to organizers, the course is designed to:
- Enhance the clinical competence of frontline healthcare providers
- Promote open dialogue on reproductive and sexual health
- Improve early diagnosis and treatment of common but often overlooked conditions
“This is the first program of its kind in Pakistan,” said a CFMP spokesperson. “It fills a critical gap in medical education and community care.”
Toward Inclusive and Informed Healthcare
By integrating reproductive health into primary care training, the course aims to reduce stigma, improve patient outcomes, and foster a more inclusive healthcare environment.
