Pakistan Health Expo Showcases Pharma Boom and Export Surge

Pakistan’s pharmaceutical industry is experiencing a historic boom, as showcased at the RCCI Med-Health Expo and Summit 2025 held at the Pak-China Friendship Center in Islamabad. The event drew government officials, foreign diplomats, and industry leaders to celebrate the sector’s transformation into a global contender.

Record-Breaking Export Growth

According to the Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers’ Association (PPMA), pharma exports surged 34% in FY25, reaching USD 457 million, the highest growth in two decades. Broader therapeutic exports—including medical devices and supplements—hit USD 909 million, just shy of the billion-dollar mark.

Global Market Penetration

Pakistani pharma firms are now exporting to:

  • Afghanistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan
  • Emerging markets like Kenya, Iraq, Vietnam, and Myanmar

This expansion is driven by Pakistan’s reputation for affordable, high-quality generic drugs, especially in price-sensitive regions.

Innovation and Investment

The Health Expo spotlighted:

  • New vaccine production lines
  • Local manufacturing of APIs (active pharmaceutical ingredients)
  • Import substitution strategies to reduce dependency on foreign raw materials

Foreign firms that once considered exiting Pakistan are now scaling up operations, investing in R&D and backward integration.
