In a pivotal meeting held in Islamabad, Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal and UNICEF Representative Abdullah Fadil reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Pakistan’s healthcare system through enhanced collaboration in telemedicine, nutrition, and digital health.
Expanding Telemedicine Access
Minister Kamal emphasized that telemedicine is the only viable solution to reduce the burden on tertiary hospitals and reach underserved communities. He stated, “The day is not far when every citizen will have access to doctors and essential medicines at their doorstep”.
Digital Health Integration
The government is working on a national policy to secure patient medical records, linking each citizen’s CNIC to a unique Medical Record (MR) number. This initiative aims to streamline health data management and improve service delivery nationwide.
Nutrition and Immunization Focus
UNICEF briefed the minister on ongoing efforts in nutrition and immunization, highlighting the need for preparedness in health emergencies and community engagement to ensure equitable access to care.
A Compassionate Mission
Minister Kamal underscored the moral imperative of healthcare, saying, “Our mission is rooted in compassion. When people are in pain, they turn to us—and we are doing everything possible to ease their suffering”.
