In a landmark move to modernize Pakistan’s healthcare infrastructure, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has officially launched a digital system for the licensing and registration of medical devices. This transformative initiative aims to eliminate bureaucratic delays and usher in a new era of transparency and efficiency.
Fast-Track Approvals
Previously plagued by years-long approval processes, the new system promises to complete registrations within just 20 days. From wheelchairs to MRI machines, all medical equipment can now be licensed online—without human interaction, paperwork, or middlemen.
A Healthcare Revolution
Speaking at the launch ceremony in Islamabad, PM Shehbaz emphasized the need for continued reform in the health sector. He recalled past tragedies caused by poor oversight and stressed that digital governance is key to preventing future crises.
Seamless Digital Experience
The platform, developed under the leadership of Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal and the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP), allows applicants to submit documents from home and receive digital certificates—a radical shift from the previous manual system.
Public-Private Synergy
The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of public-private partnerships and innovation in driving healthcare reform. He praised the dedication of DRAP’s team and called for replication of successful models like the Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology across the country.
Vision for the Future
With population growth and disease outbreaks posing ongoing challenges, this digital leap is seen as a critical step toward making Pakistan a globally respected healthcare leader. The initiative also includes plans for QR codes and barcodes to verify medicine authenticity and pricing.
