At the 7th Belt and Road Forum for Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Development, Pakistani Ambassador to China, Khalil Hashmi, expressed Pakistan’s desire to enhance collaboration with China and other nations in advancing TCM research and innovation.
The forum, held as part of the 2024 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS), highlighted the growing global interest in TCM. Officials from various countries echoed Pakistan’s call for increased cooperation with China in this field, aiming to drive forward both research and practical applications of TCM.
Bruno Masier, President of the World Trade Point Federation (WTPF), underscored the significant role TCM plays in global healthcare. He noted, “Traditional Chinese medicine has been a cornerstone of healthcare in China and is increasingly recognized for its potential to enhance global health systems. This forum is an opportunity to explore how TCM can contribute to comprehensive healthcare improvements worldwide.”
Ambassador Hashmi highlighted the importance of integrating TCM with Western medical practices to offer more holistic healthcare solutions. “To fully realize TCM’s potential, we must merge its preventive and holistic approaches with Western medicine’s diagnostic precision and advanced treatments,” he said.
The forum, co-hosted by the WTPF and the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies (WFCMS), introduced several key initiatives to promote TCM on a global scale. Notable among these was the establishment of the Expert Committee of the Belt and Road Forum for Traditional Chinese Medicine Development, which aims to facilitate the integration of TCM into the Belt and Road Initiative.
In addition, the Belt and Road Traditional Chinese Medicine Global Tour was launched. This initiative will see leading TCM experts and companies collaborating with regions across Southeast Asia, Latin America, Europe, and Africa to further TCM’s global reach and impact.
