Mpox Patient Isolated After Positive Test in Multan
A patient from Muzaffargarh has tested positive for mpox and is currently in isolation at Nishtar Hospital, Multan. The confirmation came after PCR-based laboratory testing conducted at a public health reference lab in Punjab.
Health officials revealed that the patient had been admitted five days earlier with fever and body rashes. Following the positive test result, he was moved to a designated isolation facility within the hospital. Specialists in infectious diseases are closely monitoring his condition, while strict infection prevention and control measures are being enforced to prevent any spread within the hospital.
Authorities confirmed that the patient had recently returned from Dubai, raising concerns about imported cases. The health department emphasized that all necessary precautions are in place, including monitoring of contacts and adherence to WHO-recommended protocols.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), mpox typically begins with fever, body aches, swollen lymph nodes, and fatigue, followed by a rash that may develop into fluid-filled lesions. While most cases remain mild, early medical care is crucial to avoid complications.
WHO advises reducing transmission risk by avoiding close contact with individuals showing rashes or symptoms, practicing regular hand hygiene with soap or alcohol-based sanitizers, and ensuring that infected patients remain isolated until lesions heal. Sharing personal items such as bedding, towels, or clothing should also be strictly avoided.
The hospital has confirmed that infection control protocols are being strictly followed, and the patient remains under observation. No further details about his condition have been released, but officials assure that containment measures are in place to safeguard public health.
This case highlights the importance of vigilance and preparedness as Pakistan continues to strengthen its healthcare response to emerging infectious diseases.
