Modernizing Livestock and Fisheries for Sindh’s Economic Future
Sindh’s provincial government is taking bold steps to transform the livestock and fisheries sector, recognizing it as the backbone of the rural economy. Provincial Minister for Livestock and Fisheries, Muhammad Ali Malkani, announced new projects that will provide small farmers with easy loans and modern veterinary facilities. These initiatives aim to reduce poverty in rural communities while boosting productivity.
Speaking at the inauguration of the three-day Delfa Cattle Show Season 5 at the Karachi Expo Center, the minister emphasized the importance of adopting scientific methods in livestock breeding. He noted that Sindh’s fertile land offers immense potential, but modern gene technology and value addition are essential to bring milk and meat production up to international standards.
Malkani highlighted that the fisheries sector is equally vital, serving as a major source of foreign exchange. The provincial government is pursuing a comprehensive policy to promote marine fisheries and inland aquaculture, ensuring that fish breeding meets global market demands.
Events like the Delfa Cattle Show play a crucial role in connecting farmers, manufacturers, and exporters. They not only encourage local trade but also build confidence among foreign investors. The exhibition showcased high-breed cattle, advanced dairy farming equipment, and stalls from leading institutions, offering farmers exposure to modern practices and technologies.
The minister praised cattle breeders and farmers for their contributions, stressing that such platforms create investment opportunities and spread scientific knowledge. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening livestock and fisheries through practical measures and policymaking, aiming for self-sufficiency in dairy and meat production alongside increased exports.
High-ranking officials and experts, including Haris Mithani, Zuhair Naseer, and senior directors from livestock and fisheries departments, attended the event. They underscored the importance of breed improvement and animal health awareness, both of which are indispensable for strengthening Sindh’s rural economy.
By bridging traditional farming with modern science, Sindh is positioning its livestock and fisheries sector as a driver of rural prosperity and international trade.
