Healthcare Transformation in Gwadar
Gwadar’s Pak-China Friendship Hospital is rapidly emerging as a cornerstone of healthcare in Balochistan. Established under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the hospital has already treated more than 48,000 patients in the first two months of 2026, averaging around 1,200 patients daily. This remarkable achievement highlights the growing accessibility of medical care in a region that previously struggled with limited facilities.
The hospital is managed by the Indus Hospital and Health Network, ensuring high-quality services across diagnostics, treatment, and inpatient care—all provided free of cost. Since its inception, the facility has served over 650,000 patients, significantly reducing the need for residents to travel to other cities for specialized treatment. Patients from across Balochistan and even neighboring regions are now turning to Gwadar for reliable healthcare.
Beyond patient care, the hospital is also a driver of local employment. More than 80% of its 487 staff members have been recruited from the surrounding community, creating opportunities and strengthening the local economy. This integration of healthcare and employment reflects CPEC’s broader vision of human development alongside infrastructure growth.
Looking ahead, the hospital is set to expand from 15 to 25 departments, offering a wider range of medical services. Plans are also underway to establish a School of Medical Technology, with future projects including a medical college and nursing school. These initiatives will not only enhance healthcare delivery but also build a pipeline of skilled professionals to serve the region for generations to come.
Gwadar’s Pak-China Friendship Hospital stands as a shining example of how international cooperation under CPEC is reshaping healthcare, education, and employment in Pakistan. It is more than a hospital—it is a symbol of progress, partnership, and hope for a healthier future.
