Federal Minister for Health, Mustafa Kamal, made a pivotal visit to Sheikh Zayed Hospital in Lahore, signaling a renewed focus on healthcare reform and infrastructure development. His presence underscored the government’s commitment to elevating medical standards and addressing long-standing challenges in public hospitals.
Accompanied by Federal Secretary Health Mr. Hamid Yaqoob and senior officials from the Punjab Health Department, the Minister toured key areas of the hospital, including the Emergency Department and various wards. His goal: to assess the current state of facilities, engage with frontline staff, and hear directly from patients.
During a detailed briefing, hospital administrators outlined pressing issues such as outdated medical equipment, staffing shortages, and infrastructure gaps. In response, Minister Kamal directed the immediate formulation of a comprehensive roadmap to upgrade the hospital’s services and physical assets.
“Resolving these challenges is a top priority,” he stated. “We are committed to improving healthcare delivery across Pakistan, starting with institutions like Sheikh Zayed Hospital.”
The Minister emphasized the importance of empathy in medical care, urging doctors and paramedics to treat every patient with dignity and kindness. “When a doctor speaks kindly to a patient, half the illness goes away,” he remarked, highlighting the emotional toll illness takes on individuals and the healing power of compassion.
Beyond the visit, Minister Kamal reaffirmed the government’s broader strategy to enhance public health nationwide. This includes integrated policies aimed at disease prevention, improved service delivery, and stronger healthcare infrastructure.
His visit marks a significant step toward revitalizing one of Lahore’s key medical institutions and sets the tone for future reforms in Pakistan’s healthcare landscape.
