A major scandal has erupted at Jinnah Hospital in Lahore, where medical equipment valued at over Rs. 10 million has reportedly vanished. The missing items include operation theater tables, beds, air conditioners, wheelchairs, and other essential hospital furnishings.
The Specialized Healthcare Department has issued a show cause notice to Dr. Shabbir Hussain, holding him responsible for the disappearance. A three-member inquiry committee found evidence suggesting the loss was intentional, raising serious concerns about corruption within the facility.
If Dr. Hussain fails to provide a satisfactory explanation, disciplinary action will be taken under departmental regulations. The incident has sparked public outrage and renewed calls for transparency and accountability in Pakistan’s healthcare system.
This case follows similar reports from Mayo Hospital Lahore, where equipment worth millions also went missing during renovations. Experts warn that such thefts not only compromise patient care but also erode public trust in government-run medical institutions.
