PM Shehbaz Launches Nationwide Anti-Polio Campaign, Emphasizes Complete Eradication​

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif officially commenced a seven-day nationwide anti-polio campaign by administering polio drops to children under the age of five. The initiative aims to immunize millions of children across Pakistan, including regions like Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir. ​

Government’s Commitment to a Polio-Free Pakistan​

During the launch event, PM Shehbaz expressed the government’s unwavering dedication to eradicating polio. He acknowledged the efforts of the Ministry of Health, Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal, Dr. Malik Mukhtar Ahmed Bharath, and frontline health workers for their relentless work in combating the disease. Emphasizing community involvement, he stated, “I urge all parents to fully cooperate with field teams to ensure every child is vaccinated.”

Ensuring Safety and Overcoming Challenges​

Recognizing the challenges faced in security-sensitive areas, the Prime Minister assured that robust measures have been implemented to ensure the safety of vaccination teams and the smooth execution of the campaign. He also extended gratitude to international partners, including the World Health Organization (WHO) and philanthropist Bill Gates, for their continued support in Pakistan’s fight against polio. ​

Progress and Future Plans​

PM Shehbaz was informed that no new polio cases have been reported in Pakistan since February 10, 2025, indicating significant progress in the eradication efforts. To ensure the effectiveness of the campaign, a total of 415,000 polio workers are participating nationwide. Additionally, third-party validation of the campaign’s success is scheduled between April 28 and April 30. ​

The launch of this comprehensive anti-polio campaign underscores the Pakistani government’s commitment to eliminating polio and safeguarding the health of future generations.
