In a significant move to bolster Pakistan’s gems and jewelry sector, China has announced a comprehensive project aimed at modernizing the industry. This initiative seeks to harness Pakistan’s abundant reserves of precious stones, particularly its world-renowned emeralds, to meet the growing demand in international markets.
The announcement was made during a meeting between a Chinese delegation, led by Wang Xiaofeng, Vice President of Huarui Guoxing Culture Group, and Muhammad Ahmad, President of the Gold and Gems Art Promotion Council of Pakistan. The meeting took place on the sidelines of a three-day food expo organized by the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan.
Muhammad Ahmad expressed the enthusiasm of Pakistani enterprises to expand trade relations with China, which currently stands as the largest importer of Pakistani gemstones. He emphasized the critical need for technological advancements and collaborative ventures to elevate the industry’s global competitiveness.
The Chinese delegation conveyed their eagerness to establish partnerships and share expertise to rejuvenate Pakistan’s gems sector. This collaborative effort is expected to not only enhance bilateral trade but also improve the standards of gemstone processing and jewelry craftsmanship in Pakistan.
