The Punjab government has announced plans to digitize microplans for its anti-polio campaign, aiming to enhance the effectiveness of the vaccination drive. This initiative will use GIS-based maps for monitoring, starting in Lahore and eventually expanding to other districts across the province.
This decision was made during a meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Punjab Zahid Akhtar Zaman, with key officials from the health department and representatives from international organizations dedicated to polio eradication. Divisional commissioners and deputy commissioners also participated via video link.
Chief Secretary Zaman stressed the need for a scientific approach to ensure the complete eradication of polio. He emphasized that the digitization of microplans is crucial for achieving full coverage, directing officials to analyze vaccination data and develop a strategy to ensure no children are missed. Special teams will also be deployed to administer the polio vaccine at transit points.
Focus on Data-Driven Action
During the meeting, Secretary of Primary Health Nadia Saqib provided an in-depth briefing, outlining the upcoming national anti-polio campaign in Punjab, which is set to launch on October 28. In key cities such as Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Faisalabad, the campaign will run until November 3, while in the remaining 33 districts, it will conclude on November 1.
The digitization effort will help streamline the campaign by tracking the areas that require special attention and ensuring vaccines reach every child. By adopting this data-driven strategy, the government hopes to improve efficiency and make significant strides toward the eradication of polio in Punjab.
