The National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) confirmed on Saturday that three new polio cases have emerged in Pakistan, bringing the total for 2024 to 21. The latest cases were reported from Balochistan, Sindh, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Pakistan, along with Afghanistan, remains one of the last two countries where polio continues to be endemic. Despite global efforts to eradicate the virus, challenges such as vaccine hesitancy, security concerns, and misinformation have hindered progress.
Ayesha Raza Farooq, the Prime Minister’s Focal Person for Polio Eradication, urged parents to prioritize their children’s vaccinations. She stated, “Parents must fulfil their responsibility. Vaccination of children should be mandatory.” Farooq added that the government is more committed than ever to completely eliminating polio from Pakistan.

A total of 326 new cases have been reported in the last week, raising the 2024 dengue count in Punjab to 958. Health officials reassured the public that preventive measures are in place, and government hospitals are equipped with the necessary treatments.
The health department has issued an advisory, urging citizens to maintain clean and dry surroundings to prevent mosquito breeding. Cooperation with health teams is essential to controlling the outbreak, and a free helpline has been set up for treatment information and complaints.
Health experts emphasized the need for vigilance and proactive steps to curb the spread of the dengue virus across the province.
