The Punjab Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has approved several key healthcare reforms to improve medical services across the province. A major highlight is the launch of the Children’s Heart Surgery Programme, aimed at addressing the backlog of 12,000 pediatric heart surgeries. The Chief Minister has emphasized that these surgeries must be completed urgently, with the Health Minister personally overseeing the initiative. International surgeons will also be invited to support the program, ensuring timely and high-quality treatment for children with heart conditions.
The Punjab Cabinet also discussed critical steps to address mental health issues in children, recognizing the growing need for mental health services. CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif directed immediate action to support mental health initiatives for children, highlighting the importance of comprehensive care for young patients.
Furthermore, the cabinet approved the MDCAT policy for public and private sector medical and dental colleges. This policy aims to streamline the admission process for medical students in Punjab, ensuring a transparent and efficient system for aspiring healthcare professionals.
In addition to these healthcare advancements, the cabinet approved the settlement terms for the Chairman Drugs Courts Punjab. It also confirmed the appointment of four technical experts as members of the Infrastructure Development Authority Punjab to enhance the province’s healthcare infrastructure.
These decisions underscore the Punjab government’s commitment to advancing healthcare access, addressing urgent medical needs, and fostering an improved healthcare system for all citizens.
